A Reading for Ezra Pound
Marking 140 years of E.P. (1885-2025)
Ezra Weston Loomis Pound, poet, translator, and self-styled economist, was born 30 October 1885, making today the 140th anniversary of his birth. Since my initiation into what I have previously called the Global Poundian Underground in July, when I presented a paper at the 31st Ezra Pound International Conference in Dorf Tirol, Italy, I’ve remained busy with a number of Pound-related projects. At least one of these, a write-up of my conference experience, will eventually appear in this space. I was hoping to have it out before today, but more pressing deadlines kept presenting themselves. And here we are.
So, to commemorate the occasion, I made a few recordings. I speak no Latin or Greek, little French, and less Italian, but I’ve done my best; in any case, they have no hope of comparison with recordings of readings by Mary de Rachewiltz or Pound himself. May they (and you) forgive my errors and wrecks.
